Ec220: Introduction to Econometrics

Course Resources

EC220 is primarily intended for second-year undergraduates specializing in economics and is compulsory for those who have not elected to take the more mathematical EC221 Principles in Econometrics. It is also taken by the majority of students enrolled in the one-year MSc Economics (Preliminary Year) programme, as an elective by undergraduates specializing in subjects other than economics, and by students from other universities spending a year at LSE in the General Course programme. It uses the third edition of my text Introduction to Econometrics (Oxford University Press). The course consists of 40 lectures and 20 small-group classes. A prominent feature of the lectures is the use of computer-driven video slideshows intended to give a graphical treatment of the topics. A self-tutoring version of the slideshows has been developed and can be downloaded from this site (click on Slideshows above). The classes include extensive hands-on practical work with two types of data set: cross-section data used to fit educational achievement and earnings functions, and time series data used to fit demand functions. These data sets, together with manuals, can be downloaded by clicking on data sets above. Other course resources can be obtained by clicking on course materials above. For more detailed information, see the calendar entry in the LSE Calendar.
